The ALBA Summer Conference 2006:
Extending the Boundaries featured a keynote speech by Professor Cheryl
Saunders on Separation of Powers and the Judicial Branch. Lord Justice
Keene chaired a session on Practice and Procedure which saw contributions
from Professor Maurice Sunkin, Paul Brown and David Elvin QC. Other
highlights included Graham Virgo and Kenneth Parker QC, the Public Law
Commissioner, delivering papers on Restitutionary Claims Against Public
Authorities and Damages. This session was chaired by Professor Christopher
Forsyth. The last session on the Saturday was entitled 'the Relationship
between EC and Administrative Law'. Chaired by Mr Justice Lloyd Jones,
David Anderson QC addressed the audience on the subject of
abuse of rights in EU Law. Richard Harwood then focused
on Environmental Law, in the context of the interface between Community and
Administrative Law.The final session of the conference was a
panel discussion on standards of review in administrative decision making
and the role of deference. The panel consisted of Jeremy Gauntlett SC,
Professor Michael Epstein and Lisa Busch, who shared their insights and
